Ballet
Students work on technique as well as learn the Nutcracker in the Fall semester. Students will have the opportunity to perform the Nutcracker at various community events and Senior Centers. During the Spring semester, students continue to work on technique and learn choreography for the upcoming staged original musical production.
Pre-Pointe and Pointe class
Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet within pointe shoes. A dancer is said to be en pointe when the dancer’s body is supported in this manner, and a fully extended vertical foot is said to be en pointe when touching the floor, even when not bearing weight.
Pre-pointe focuses on developing the muscles necessary to achieve pointe work, including ankle strengthening, conditioning, turnout and more.
Lyrical
Lyrical is focused on developing students’ mental and emotional connection to music and movement. Through this class, students will work on developing their own unique movement through improvisation exercises as well as learn choreographed combinations to enhance their ability to express their emotions and give meaning to their dancing.
Jazz
Dance Theater is a high energy jazz-based class. During the Fall semester, students work on technical development. BCDTA hosts an informal in-house workshop presentation in December for parents. During the Winter/Spring semester, students learn choreography to be performed in the upcoming staged original musical production. Dances may vary in style and will take on either a classic jazz, lyrical, broadway, modern or hip hop flare.
Tap
Tap is a high energy class where students learn about the different styles, rhythms and sounds of tapping. Students will build their technique for precision, speed, rhythm and sound clarity through center and across the floor phrases which then develop into full combinations.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is an introductory-level class which provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements from old school to new school in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. It offers a new set of combinations and routines every class to challenge the dancers and serves as a great cardio workout. The resulting outcome is an energetic class that not only teaches you Hip Hop movements and technique, but also instills rhythm and precision in your muscle memory.
Acting and Voice
Acting and Voice students explore a variety of musical genres which include Broadway, Pop, Disney, and Classical. Students will have the opportunity of either singing a solo or singing with a group. All A/V students will perform 1 vocal piece, as a group, in the Spring production. The Acting portion includes improvisation, scene study, dramatic role play, commercials, on-camera activities & audition technique.
